Going to Mallorca this Sep.28/03 for 2-week tour of the island. Anyone been there? Feedback & tips appreciated? How'd you get from airport to Palma? What time of year? Was accommodations easy to come by? Is more English spokern here than say, mainland Spain? How did you store bike box/bag? What was weather like/ Should someone bike clockwise or counter clockwise around the island (winds, traffic, etc.)?
Thanks all,
Craig

Hi Craig,

I've been to Mallorca 12 times, mostly in spring, once in October. September is very likely to be quite hot, the land will have a rather brownish hue, in contrast to the flowering green in March/April. I alway train threre with a racebike, so I don't travel from hotel to hotel, but stay in one place. (Reasonably cheap)accomodation for one night is probably hard to come by, as most people book their holidays Sat.-Sat- from home. There is no hostel-style accom. on the island. Depending on your budget, I'd consider choosing two or three hotels for 4-6 days each, from where you could easily cover all of the island by day trips. Plus: an unloaded bike is more fun to ride and Mallorca isn' flat. English is understood in most tourist spots. It doesn't matter if you cycle clockwise or c/clockwise, there are basically two streets to avoid (Palma-Inca-Alcudia and Palma -Manacor) the rest is fine. Don't miss the mountains !! If you're interested, I could mail/send you information about some hotels, links, nice roads etc. Just mail me under cehpeh@gmx.de. Mallorca is great for cycling, I want to help everybody to have that experience, too. Yours, Claus.
