Ende Juni 2005 wird erstmals ein 1200 km Brevet von den Seattle - Randonneurs in Washington organisiert:
Cascade 1200
Kleine Einschätzung von Ken Bonner:
I've ridden most of the route as part of two SIR 1000s. If the weather is clear, the 1st 300k to the Columbia Gorge is very scenic, including a very nice, paved climb & long descent to the check-point in the Columbia Gorge. The climb back up onto the Washington desert from the Gorge is also interesting. I did this ride in the Fall and it was hovering around 85 degrees F. in the interior of Washington. On another 1000k, I rode up Rainy Pass --- fortunately it was cloudy .... it is very exposed to the hot sun if one climbs it during the late morning or into the afternoon.

If you visit the SIR website and look up Kent Peterson's web page, he has a number of great descriptions of rides he has completed, including the SIR Fall 1000k (2003). I think we all agreed this was a classic course .... we crossed over at Stevens Pass, but I imagine Rainy Pass was chosen to get the extra 200k and hopefully in anticipation of a little less traffic. The traffic is quite horrendous around the general Seattle area, and certainly over Stevens Pass. I was just about wiped out by a travel trailer (I was in the "pull-off" lane!), and on another ride in 2003, Ken Carter, a SIR rider, was w>iped out by a camper truck on one of the passes around Mt. Rainier --- fortunately, only broken ribs .... and he rested and mended in time for PBP.
